Music is also incorporated into our curriculum when appropriate. I have used music in the past as a starting point for creating poetry (song lyrics), describing/finding the mood of a piece of literature or art, to teach fraction concepts (since all music notes are fractions), as a means of creative responding (say it like you were in an opera) to help the memorization of a concept or idea, as quiet background noise when working independently, and so on. Students receive additional music knowledge and training during their weekly block/specials class and in the past have had the opportunity to choose to audition and participate in the school honor choir.
